[Paul.] Amazingly I managed to find the webviewing pano tool creator thingy (technical word). So ive been busy transforming all the hotel pano's into moving images. Have a spin round each of the rooms using your mouse (left click and hold then move the mouse around) and zoom in using your mouse wheel to see a bit more detail.

It’s always good knowing you've done a good job for a client. It’s even better knowing that you've surpassed your old work and stepped up your game. Four years ago we photographed Danny Sutton's first two boutique hotels for his website and his brochure (which we also designed). After our recent commission to photograph his new hotel, Statton's, Danny decided that our new work far surpassed our old work we had done from him and commissioned us to re-shoot his first two hotels!

Below is the set of images submitted to Danny. They took around 30 minutes each to shoot and are between 7000 to 12000 pixels wide, providing our client with images that have maximum flexibility for use with lots of detail.

Congratulations to Vicki Williams from the Saks Salon in Guildford for picking up the Avant Garde award in the 2009 Saks Awards (announced 2010). This is the second consecutive year that we have helped create awarding winning hair photography for the team at Saks Guildford. This adds to last years double award win for the Saks Men’s Image Award & Hairdressing Advanced Apprentice Award, 2008.

Stattons Hotel

(Dave) Daniel Sutton from the Florence and Somerset House Hotels contacted us with news of another property to be added to his growing empire of boutique hotels in Southsea. We’d photographed his first two hotels for him, and he was eager for us to capture the essence and character of his newest venture. We recommended HDR photography and 360° panoramics to show the hotel and its rooms at its best. A selection of those images can be seen below, as is a link to Stattons.

New York in HDR

(Dave) While I was in New York, I shot some HDR images, my first attempt at this new technique. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, but that’s not really important, what does matter is that using this technique can produce some amazing results.
For me, shooting was definitely the fun bit, but that’s only half the process with HDR, there’s plenty of photo-shop work to be done to them, and this has taken me while.
And so without further delay, below are my first attempts at HDR photography. Not too bad at all.

Terms and Conditions for PostArt Competitions

Here are the full terms and conditions for PostArt competitions. Please read these carefully before entering one of our competitions. By entering a competition published in any newspaper/publication and/or online for PostArt, the participant in the competition agrees to the terms and conditions set out here.

These terms and conditions and any terms and conditions set out in the competition advertisement or promotional material are referred to as the “rules”. In these rules, the term "competition(s)" includes games, promotions and the like, "PostArt" or "We" means PostArt Ltd, and “participant(s)” means any person(s) taking part in a competition. The individual competition requirements must also be met.

1 Unless otherwise stated in a competition advertisement the promoter of all competitions contained within the publications is PostArt Ltd whose principal place of business in the United Kingdom is [44 The Thicket, Fareham, Hants PO16 8PZ (the “promoter”).

Eligibility of participants

2 To enter a competition all participants must comply with the entry requirements stated in that competition advertisement and/or promotional material. The participant acknowledges that failure to comply with the rules may result in his or her disqualification from the competition.

3 Unless otherwise stated, entry to all competitions is restricted to participants who are residents of the United Kingdom and 18 years of age or over.

4 Where participants are required to enter in one of several age categories, the relevant category for each participant shall be that category appropriate to the participant’s age on the closing date of the competition. A participant is assumed to be of a certain age up to and including the day prior to his or her next birthday.

5 Employees of PostArt or its associated companies or their agents or members of their families are not eligible to enter any competition in a publication.

6 If a promoter other than PostArt or its associated companies is named in a competition advertisement as the promoter of the competition, employees of that specified promoter or its associated companies or their agents or members of their families are not eligible to enter that competition.

7 The promoter has the right at any time to require participants to provide proof of identity and/or eligibility to enter the competition. If a participant is required to provide such evidence and fails to do so, then PostArt may, at its discretion, decide to disqualify a participant from the competition or withdraw a prize.

8 When requested, the participant must provide full, truthful and accurate information to requests for evidence of eligibility to participate and must not mislead the promoter. If PostArt believes that information being provided does not comply with this provision, then PostArt may, at its discretion, disqualify a participant from the competition or withdraw any prize.

9 Names of winners and results of competitions will be published on www.postart.co.uk or may be published in the relevant editions of the publications as circumstances permit.

10 The determination of the PostArt shall be final in relation to the eligibility of any participant. No correspondence will be entered into about a decision regarding eligibility.

11 Unless otherwise stated, entries must be received by the promoter no later than the published closing date for the competition.

12 Proof of posting, emailing, sent SMS (“short messaging service”)/text message, sent MMS (“multimedia messaging service”)/picture message/video message will not be accepted as proof of receipt of entry by the promoter and no responsibility is accepted by the promoter for entries lost, delayed, mislaid or for any technical failure or for any event which may cause entries to the competition to be delayed, deleted, misdirected, disrupted or corrupted.

13 The promoter is not responsible for incomplete, unclear, incomprehensible or distorted entries. Such entries will be void.

14 Internet
Where the selected method of entry is by e-mail or internet submission:

• The cost of such submission will be free subject to any arrangement between the participant and his or her internet service provider.

15 The promoter is not responsible if the e-mail or Internet entry made by the participant is disrupted, unclear, distorted, undelivered, delayed or affected in any way beyond the reasonable control of the promoter or any third party employed by the promoter to administer competition entries. The promoter is not liable for any charges incurred by the participant for any Internet connection or e-mail.

Change of Rules

16 PostArt reserve the right, acting reasonably, to change the rules applicable to any competition or to void any competition at any time and for any reason. In the unusual event that a competition is declared void for any reason, PostArt will use best endeavours to refund all participants. Subject to the participant providing proof of payment of the entry fee (e.g. itemised phonebill).

17 In the event of an error, howsoever caused, whether a printing, technical or other error and whether obvious or otherwise, which affects the competition in any way, the PostArt reserve the right to administer the competition in a fair and reasonable manner and may if appropriate, engage an independent third party to conduct a prize draw. Where PostArt deems it appropriate and/or feasible PostArt will notify participants of the error and correct it either through its website www.postart.co.uk or through any other suitable medium.

Tie-Breaker

18 Where necessary in order to determine an outright winner or winners to a competition, PostArt reserve the right to request participants to take part in an eliminating contest (or 'tie breaker'). Where for any reason there are more winners than prizes on offer the PostArt reserve the right to conduct an independent draw to determine the winner or winners of the prizes.

Prizes

19 There is no cash alternative to the prizes and prizes may not be substituted for other prizes, unless specifically stated in the competition advertisement or promotion. PostArt offers prizes subject to availability and reserves the right to substitute prizes for a similar item of equal or higher value if the stated prize is not available.

20 Unless otherwise specified, prizes may take up to 8 weeks to be delivered. Winners shall be notified by telephone or post unless otherwise stated.

21 If a cash prize is stated to be payable to a winner, the prize will be provided by way of a cheque made payable in the name of the winning participant. Cheques will not be issued to third parties.

22 Participants are responsible for paying all taxes, duties and any other levies on prize winnings.

23 If the winner of a competition informs the promoter that he or she is unable to take up a prize for any reason, the promoter reserves the right to award it to an alternative winner, in which case the first winner chosen will not be eligible for any share of the prize whatsoever.

Publicity of Winning Entries

24 The participant agrees to his or her name and county of residence being published in connection with a winning entry in the competition and agrees to the promoter disclosing his or her name and county of residence on the promoter’s website and to any individual requesting the name of the winning participant.

25 The participants agree not to enter into correspondence or give interviews with any person other than the promoter on any matters arising from any competition without the prior written permission of PostArt.

26 The participant agrees to co-operate with the promoter including its photographers or reporters to publicise their win as PostArt deems reasonably requires.

27 Neither the promoter nor PostArt (if the promoter is not PostArt) is under any obligation to publish any competition entries supplied.

Participants’ Obligations and rights of PostArt Directors

28 The participant confirms that:

• he or she has the right to submit the competition entry in accordance with the rules of entry;

• all entries submitted by the participant are legal, and truthful and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, standards or codes of practice;

• all entries submitted do not infringe copyright, design, privacy, publicity, data protection, trademark, or any other rights of any third party

• all entries do not contain any abusive, obscene, threatening, libellous or defamatory material.

29 The participant has sole responsibility for his or her entries and each participant agrees to indemnify the promoter and keep the promoter fully and effectively indemnified on demand from and against all actions, claims, losses, liability, proceedings, damages, costs, expenses, loss of business, loss of profits, business interruption and other pecuniary or consequential loss (including legal costs and expenses) suffered or incurred by the promoter and/or PostArt and arising directly or indirectly out of the publication of any competition entry submitted by the participant.

30 Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in the disqualification of the entry. PostArt reserve the right to disqualify any entry at their absolute discretion and may edit, reject or remove entries if the PostArt believe that the entries do not comply with the provisions of paragraph 37 above or are deemed by the PostArt to be inappropriate.

31 PostArt’s decision is final in all matters concerning a competition.

Data Protection

32 All personal data provided by a participant to the promoter in connection with a competition entry will be used by the promoter, its employees, suppliers, contractors and agents to process the competition, to inform winning participants of their winning entry and to distribute prizes.

33 All personal data provided by participants will be processed by PostArt in accordance with PostArt Privacy Policy set out on the PostArt website. PostArt reserves the right to use participants’ personal data to inform them of future promotions. If participants do not wish for their personal data to be used for this purpose then they must 'opt out’. Once you have entered a competition you may receive other related promotional offers / services via email or postal service. To stop receiving such email services you can reply STOP to the email address

Limitation of Liability

34 To the fullest extent permitted by law, the promoter accepts no liability for any loss or damage of any nature whatsoever and howsoever arising out of or in connection with a participant’s entry into the competition (including the use of any prize) and the promoter’s use of the entry whether due to inaccuracy, error, omission or any other cause and whether on the part of the promoter (or its servants, agents or any other person or entity).

35 If the promoter is liable to a participant for any reason (other than death or personal injury arising from the promoter’s negligence), the promoter’s liability will be limited to £100. Notwithstanding any other provision of these rules, the promoter does not attempt to exclude or limit its liability for death or personal injury resulting from its negligence in any way.

36 To the fullest extent permissible by law, the promoter does not make any express or implied warranties, representations or endorsements whatsoever with regard to the competition prizes or any information, service or product provided in connection with a competition.

Participants from outside the United Kingdom

37 Open to UK residents only. Overseas players are not eligible.

General Provisions

38 If any provision or term of these rules shall become or be declared illegal, invalid or unenforceable for any reason whatsoever, such term or provision shall be divisible from the rest of the rules and shall be deemed to be deleted from them.

39 Any failure or delay by the promoter in enforcing an obligation or exercising a right, under these rules, does not amount to a waiver of that obligation or right or any other obligation or right.

40 The participant acknowledges that he or she has not agreed to these rules in reliance on any statement or representation, except in so far as the representation has been incorporated into these rules. The participant irrevocably and unconditionally waives any right the participant may have to claim damages and/or to rescind these terms and conditions by reason of any misrepresentation (other than a fraudulent misrepresentation) not contained in these terms and conditions.

41 These rules and all competitions included in the publications are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and the English Courts will have exclusive jurisdiction to determine any proceedings in connection with this competition

42 In the event that a promotion has generated insufficient correct entries, PostArt reserve the right to distribute the rest of the prizes to incorrect entries based on a draw.

(Dave) My very lovely girlfriend treated the two of us to a trip to New York. We had a cracking time and walked countless miles being tourist like in the big apple. We did a little shopping (Paul - you should see Dave's crocodile skin shoes.....he has two pairs!)and quite a lot of sight-seeing. We even went to Yankee Stadium to watch a baseball game! Make Your Mark 500

As part of their continued fund raising efforts, the Mary Rose 500 appeal asked us to do a setup shoot photographing the guys from Wooden Tiger dressed up in 'ye olde' clothing wood carving on what would suggest the Mary Rose back in the day. Of course we were not on the Mary Rose, in fact we were not even at sea. The kind people at Little Woodham (a 17th century Village in Gosport) allowed us to use one of the huts and various props to recreate the scene the charity were after.

Afterwards I (Paul) took a little stroll around the Village to photograph the buildings.

Steve from The Lionels approached PostArt to photograph the band at The Hampshire Rose to provide some live imagery for promotional and website uses. It was a tricky evening to start with as I wrestled with the portable lighting the band had brought, but I then eventually resorted to wireless flashguns to light the stage.

All in all it was a cracking gig, so if you need a modern covers band with members who have worked at some of Londons largest recording studios then give them a shout.

Holly Hill conker Tournament, 2009.

Shooting once again for The Western Wards Gazette, we found ourselves at The 7th Annual Open Conker Championship at Holly Hill Woodland Park. The weather held out for all involved, and it was a highly competitive event with a very friendly atmosphere. Dave narrowly avoided being hit by a flying conker, but as the rule goes: pain is temporary, a photograph is forever.

1940's Dance night at southsea castle for the mary rose 500 appeal

Dave – Saturday saw us stepping back in time as we attended the 1940’s Dance night with the lovely folks from Now That’s Jive, for the Mary Rose 500 appeal.

Everybody made a top effort to dress up in clothes of the era, and there were some serious dance moves on the night, from shim sham to lindy bopping, and everything in between. (Or either side, I’m still learning about all this)
Some great shots of the night, and we applied an aged look to some of the images to get with the 40’s spirit.

Its been on the books for awhile, so myself and my girlfriend Charlotte punted over to the Isle of Wight to see some sights and take some photo's. We stared at about 5.30 in the morning getting to Ryde at about 8 o'clock to have a mooch around the seafront and grab a bite to eat in a proper greasy spoon.

During the Day we went to Osborne House, home of the late and long serving Queen Victoria before heading over to Brading to have a look at the Roman Villa and grab some dinner. We then drove all the way over to the Needles, via a small place called Newton before heading back to the ferry and home to sleep.

Anyway, its a bit of a large photoset below, but it was a long day trip with photos on the agenda. Enjoy!

United Salons Studio Shoot

It always fun shooting hair. Mainly because of the girls, but even more fun when its with the United Salons team, including lead stylists Tony Wood and Mike Saunders. Oh, and LaniD our makeup guru (our professional exsistence on these shoots would be harder without her skills). An epic day had by all and the product that you see in the gallery below is the back-end of 4 weeks intensive work.

If you've never tried United Salons before then pop down and have a chat, they are all very welcoming and the hair they produce is great.

The clothes were kindly provided by Style in the City based on Albert Road (no.10) in Portsmouth.

Branding of the Beast

(Dave) The decision was finally made to buy myself a van. My old car was on its last legs, and I wanted something that we could throw all of our kit in when we’re out on a shoot. So after much looking around I found an Astra van at a reasonable price and snapped it up.

No point in having a van if you don’t have it logoed up, and so within a day of purchasing the Van, Rob at A&S signs and graphics had knocked up a design that we liked, and booked the van in a day after that for the vinyl artwork to be applied.
I took the camera along to capture Rob and Kevin at work, only for Rob to get all shy when the camera was on him. I promised him hands only in the shots, and the results are here for you to see.

Oh, by the way, we always give our new kit some form of nickname usually along the beastly line, and so as it’s the new shiny silver PostArt van, The Silver Beast is born.......

The Mary Rose Appeal

As part of our ongoing charitable nature, we have ‘joined the crew’ at the Mary Rose 500 appeal and will be donating our time towards this fantastic historical cause. Henry the 8th flagship, a notable part of Portsmouth's maritime heritage, sank in 1545. We weren’t there, but we do remember being late for school that morning in 1982 to watch her being raised.

It's because of this milestone in history that we are happy to get involved with Fiona and the ‘500’ appeal team. We were recently called along for a bit of public relations photography, to capture the first members of the new ‘500 crew’. Afterwards we asked nicely if we could go see the ship, and paul got a top notch HDR shot through 2 inches of wet glass (as can be seen on the album cover below).

Rainbow LIVE Festival

(Dave)Each year the Rainbow centre holds its summer festival in Fareham town centre, and we were there once again to lend our support with a camera.

The only thing letting us down was of course the great british summer weather (you’d have thought we’d know better by now eh?) apart from that the day was great success and lots of money was raised for the centre.

The Lavender Fields Trip

(dave) my lovely girlfriend drives to work in Basingstoke everyday (lucky girl) and on one of those journeys she noticed that a lavender farm along the way was having an open day.

The farm is in Selbourne and only has four open days a year, I took my new tripod along for a bit of practise on shooting HDR amongst the lavender fields.
It wasn’t quite Provence in France, but worth a go anyway. Lots of Bees and other bugs knocking around too.

Global Voices @ The Anvil, Basingstoke

Kevin Briscoe at Briscoe PR is putting together a local news publication for Swanwick and the surrounding area's, with this in mind, he asked us to get ourselves upto Basingstoke to photograph a multi-school concert based on African jazz at The Anvil called Global Voices.

We were a bit apprehensive before hand, usually school concerts are not the greatest productions. But this was something different, something better. The music was fantastic, very uplifting and performed by an award winning school. The level and degree of organisation it must have taken for kids from so many school across such a different age range was staggering, so we have to congratulate all those involved.

The Rainbow Center's Charity Ball

The Rainbow Center, for those who do not know, are specialists in conductive education helping children with Cerebral Palsy. "Conductive Education in its fullest form is a unified system of rehabilitation for people with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis and those recovering from strokes or head injuries" (from the centers website). Needless to say we have seen the marvellous work all the ladies at the center perform and the results they achieve with all the children.

The Charity Ball itself is a chance for the Chairty to raise funds and for the staff and various guests to enjoy an evening of good food, drink and the onslaught of dancing that occurs as a result. Plus us, the PostArt team, who were there to photograph all of it.

The location, Spitbank Fort. The cause, the end of three years hard work by over a 100 students of the School of Geography at Portsmouth University. And we found the areas largest fake canon to photograph them in front of.

The Fancy Dress Birthday Party

(Dave) The great thing about PostArt is that our work is so varied, it keeps us excited and enthusiastic about each project. We heard about Charlotte’s 18th party and its fancy dress theme, and we couldn’t wait to shoot for her.

We were really impressed by the effort everyone made with their costumes and it was great to see so many comic book super heroes knocking around. The highlight of the evening was when we asked Spiderman to smile and he shouted back that he was! Nice one spidey.

We also noticed that at no time did the DJ have more people on his dance floor than we had around our photography set-up, we became the evening’s entertainment!

(Dave)A selection of the area’s finest 6-a-side footballers couldn’t make it along to this, but what some of the teams lacked in skill, they made up for in passion. I’ve never seen two grown men square up to each other in the name of charity before! A day committed to charity is a good day in our book, and the final was a worthy battle between two great opponents. (was that a sporting cliché?)

The marvelous thing about finding a good makeup artist (Lani D) is that they usually know people willing to jump infront of the camera. Tara, before this shoot, had never modeled yet she slipped into the role for the day with the coaching of lead photographer Dave. We were also demoing our new black vinyl backdrop, so we were having some fun playing around with the lighting setup to get what we were after. Anyway, pre-photoshop/post-lightroom photos bellow for you all to enjoy!
